10 Days Tour From Tangier

Day 1 : Tangier →Tetouan → Chefchaouen

On the first day of this 10-day Morocco Itinerary from Tangier, we will pick you up from your accommodation, at the port/airport of Tangier. Then drive inland towards Chefchaouen, passing through the Rif mountains and Tetouan city. Stops will be made for you to enjoy the breathtaking views of this mountain chain. 

When we get to the “Blue City” of Chefchaouen you will have a free afternoon to enjoy the highlights of the small Medina and wander through the narrow and blue-washed alleys that lend this town its unique charm. Overnight in a hotel in Chefchaouen.

Day 2 : Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Meknes → Fes

After breakfast in the hotel, we will begin driving towards the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 3rd century BC. Explore the remarkably preserved mosaics, temples, and triumphal arches. 

After the visit, we will drive towards Meknes City, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. Explore the impressive Bab El Mansour gate, the granaries, and the Moulay Ismail’s stables, capable of housing 12,000 horses. After lunch in Meknes, we will continue our journey to Fes. Dinner and overnight stay in the heart of Fes Medina.

Day 3 : Fes sightseeing tour with a local guide

On the third day of your 10-day Tangier Desert Tour, we will embark on a comprehensive sightseeing tour of Fes with a knowledgeable local guide. We will kick off by visiting the Royal Palace gate. This will be followed by Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest urban car-free areas in the world.

One of the highlights of the tour will be visiting the iconic Bou Inania Madrasa. Then Al-Karaouine University, one of the oldest continuously operating universities in the world, dating back to 859 AD. We will also visit the Attarine Museum and pay respects to the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum Tombs, the final resting place of Moulay Idriss II who was the founder of Fes. 

Experience the Chouara Tannery, where you can witness the age-old tradition of leather dyeing and tanning. Explore the Nejjarine Square and after visit the Jewish headquarters, the first Mellah ever built in Morocco in the sixteenth century. Afterward, we will drive to the ancient fortress for a superb view of the entire Medina of Fes. Then return to your riad.

Day 4 : Fes → Azrou cedar forest → Midelt → Merzouga

At 8 AM, we depart Fes and set toward the Sahara Desert and the dunes of Merzouga. Our route takes us through the Middle Atlas Mountains, where we will pass through a winter ski resort town known as Fes or the “Switzerland of Morocco ”. Here we will make a brief stop for coffee and enjoy the beauty and take photos.

Then continue to the Cedar Forest in Azrou, home to the friendly Barbary macaques. Feel free to take a leisurely stroll through the cedar forest and feed these friendly monkeys. Continue our drive through the scenic Tizi-n-Talremt pass, offering breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains. Make a brief stop in Midelt, where we will have free time for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.

We will go along the rich Ziz Valley, stopping at various points to enjoy the view and take pictures en route to Erfoud, the capital of the dates. In the evening we will reach Merzouga Desert where we will stay in a cozy hotel near the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Day 5 : Merzouga area → Camel trek and overnight camping

Continuing our 10-day Morocco trip from Tangier, after breakfast, we’ll set out to explore Merzouga village. We’ll be visiting the Gnawa people, initially from Sudan, Senegal, and Mali in their village Khamlia, where you will learn about Gnawa music and their way of life in the desert.

Then we drive off the road to M’ifis, an ancient eyeliner mine. After, we drive to a nomadic Berber settlement, where you can learn about their traditional way of life and enjoy a cup of mint tea. Today, our lunch will consist of a local delicacy, known as Berber pizza. 

After that, we will head back to our hotel to start our camel trekking experience over the Erg Chebbi dunes. To cap off the memorable journey, a stop on top of a high sand dune will allow you to enjoy the sunset.

After about 1h 30 min, we will arrive at our traditional Berber camp, where you’ll be warmly welcomed by your nomadic hosts. Enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner prepared by the camp staff, and spend the evening around the campfire, listening to live music and entertainment under the starry night sky. Overnight, you’ll sleep in comfortable Berber-style tents.

Day 6 : Merzouga → Jerf → Todgha Gorges → Dades Valley

Wake up early to witness what may be the best sunrise of your life. After breakfast, we leave the desert to visit Rissani town, a major trading center in the region. If we are visiting on Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, we will explore its large souk. 

Then we head to Tinghir and Todra gorges- the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco. Hike along the gorges and appreciate the beauty of these majestic red cliffs.  Along the way, you will have an opportunity to enjoy a conventional Moroccan lunch.

Our journey continues to the Dades Valley, often referred to as the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Along the way, we cannot miss the majestic sand castles and the incredible rock formations known as the “monkey fingers”. We will also make a stop atop a mountain overlooking the Dades Valley. Finally, we will arrive at Dades Valley for dinner and overnight stay in our riad.

Day 7 : Dades Valley → Ouarzazate

After breakfast, the road takes us to Ouarzazate through the way to Thousand Kasbahs. The route offers countless chances to capture some of your best photographic shots of the excursion. Today on your 10 Days Tangier Desert Tour you will have the opportunity to meet Berber nomads in their caves.

Along the way, we will pass through the valley of roses, famous for its rose water production and fragrant rose fields (in season). Then we will stop at Kalaat M’gouna, also known as “the rose city”. Visit a local cooperative and learn about the traditional rose water distillation process.

We then drive through the palm groves of Skoura and the valley, we’ll visit the Kasbah Amridil. Moving on, we drive to Ouarzazate, aptly nicknamed “the Hollywood of Africa”. Dinner and overnight in a comfortable hotel or riad.

Day 8 : Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah → Marrakech

After breakfast, we’ll depart Ouarzazate to Marrakech. We will make a small stop to visit the Taourirt Kasbah, a former palace and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will also explore the famous Atlas Film Studios, one of the largest and most renowned movie studios in the world. The studios have been used to film numerous famous films.

Then make our way to the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive fortified villages in Morocco. This mud-brick village has been featured in numerous films and TV shows, including Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia.

Later on, we will continue our journey towards Marrakech crossing the High Atlas mountains via the TiziN’Tichka pass, the highest road pass in North Africa (2260m). We will make stops for lunch and enjoy its panoramic views and Berber towns along the way until we reach Marrakech. Dinner and overnight in a traditional riad close to the medina.

Day 9 : Marrakech sightseeing with a local guide

After breakfast in the Riad, our day will be spent exploring the city of Marrakech, also known as the red city of Morocco. Our local guide will ensure that you dive into the most important highlights of Marrakech. Start your tour at the Koutoubia Mosque, one of the largest and most impressive mosques in the Western Muslim world, known for its beautiful minaret.

Next, we’ll visit the Saadian Tombs, a burial site that remained hidden for centuries until its discovery in 1971.  These royal tombs house the remains of Saadian rulers and their families. Visit El Bahia Palace, Djemaa el Fna square, and its souk which is considered to be one of the largest traditional souk in Morocco. 

End your day at the Jardin Majorelle, a beautiful botanical garden created by French artist Jacques Majorelle, featuring vibrant blue buildings and exotic plants. Finally, return to the hotel but feel free to wander in  Djemaa el Fna square on your own.

Day 10 : Transfer to the airport

Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time to explore more of Marrakech or relax at your hotel. At the designated time, our driver will pick you up and transfer you to the Marrakech Menara Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your unforgettable 10-day trip from Tangier.
