Day Trip from Marrakech to Atlas Mountains

Marrakech → Atlas Mountains

The tour starts with a pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. You’ll board an air-conditioned vehicle and begin the journey towards the Atlas Mountains, situated around an hour’s drive from the city.

Our first stop is Ourika Valley located at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. This lush valley is renowned for its magnificent landscapes, including the famous Seven Waterfalls. Upon arrival, you’ll have two options to explore the valley: If you prefer a more relaxed experience, you can opt for a camel ride through the valley.

Alternatively, you can go on a guided hike taking you past traditional Berber homes, terraced fields, and the cascading Seven Waterfalls. Regardless of your chosen mode of exploration, you will have the opportunity to stop at the Seven Waterfalls for amazing photo opportunities and a chance to cool off in the refreshing waters (weather permitting).

Lunch will be at one of the restaurants available in the area, offering panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains that perfectly complement the delectable local Berber cuisine. One of the highlights of our tour is the opportunity to stay with a local Berber family in their traditional home.

Experience their way of life, learn about their customs, and traditions, and enjoy their warm hospitality as they serve you mint tea and home-cooked traditional bread.

Depart from the Ourika Valley and head towards the village of Setti Fatma, known for its weekly market and the opportunity to witness traditional pottery-making by local artisans. The village offers day-trippers a relatively short drive to a hike with waterfalls and panoramic views of the rolling hills and mountain peaks.

Once here you will be greeted by another local guide whose sole job is to help you climb the waterfall safely. The hike takes you through a small shopping area at the base of the trail. Next on our grand tour of the Atlas Mountains excursion, we will stop at a women’s argan oil cooperative. Here women use the argan nut in various ways to earn a living.

During our day tour Marrakech to the Atlas, you will learn about the traditional methods used by local women to extract the oil from the Argan nuts and gain insights into the economic and cultural significance of this product. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase authentic Argan oil products (optional).
